Short stories, Horror genres, Thrillers and other things which obviously don’t give me nightmares……

HELLO WONDERFUL PEOPLE WHO ARE READING THIS POST!

(This can be a scary post for some people)

This is a not-so-short post on how short stories have given me nightmares at times but at that same time made me marvel at how one line can change the whole story.

Now, Before I actually start ranting and writing and penning down my thoughts I’d like to share a short story with you- (Read it carefully)

~The boarded Window (By someone famous, so sorry I couldn’t remember the name)

(This is a first-person narrative)

I have never been so fond of going in the woods. My grandfather told me the stories of wolves and Beasts and a lonely man who had a gun in his hand all the time. Most things scared me like anything but the man’s story intrigued me. Grandfather told me that his window was boarded and his door was always locked. He hardly ever came out of his house and when he did he had a gun in his hand.

Now, my dear readers, Don’t think of him as a monster. I’ll explain a little backstory to you to help you understand who he is.

His name was Murray. He lived a happy life with his wife whom he loved most dearly. One day while returning home from work he found her sick. He lived in an isolated place so he couldn’t find a doctor for her. He got her medicines and treated her to warm soups. After 3 days he found her lying on the ground lifeless. Convinced that she was dead he prepared her burial rites but as he had no one to help him he did the work not very neatly and made countless mistakes. After a whole day of working he put his wife’s body near the door and slept. In the middle of the night, he heard a loud growl. He saw a panther approaching his wife. But he was sleepy and thought he was dreaming. When he woke up he saw the animal dragging the woman by her neck. He got his gun and killed the animal. But as he went towards his wife he noticed that a part of the panther’s ear was in her hand and the panther had human-nail scratch marks all over his body,

OKAY

THIS WAS THE STORY

AND IF IT HASN’T SUNKEN IN IT YET, CONGRATULATIONS YOU AREN’T THE ONLY ONE

(If you didn’t get it read the last line again, the ending has something to do with a woman not being dead)

Horror stories have never been on my top 5 list. Now you know why. SOME PEOPLE END IT IN SUCH A WAY THAT YOU JUST SIT THERE WONDERING FOR THE REST OF THE DAY THINKING WHAT ON EARTH JUST HAPPENED AND THEN HAVING A FULL NIGHT OF NIGHTMARES.

I recently purchased a book called Doll Bones. It had the story of a queen’s organs and brain being sewed in a doll and how the doll came alive after being bought by a little girl. Typical Annabelle theme but TRUST ME THAT STORY DIDNT LET ME BE NEAR MY DOLL FOR 5 DAYS, I used to lock it up in my top drawer.

I mean there’s also Miss Peregrine series which was a disappointment in writing ways but the PICS. THOSE TOOK THE LIFE OUT OF ME

Do share your thoughts on how you feel about Scary stories…
